Marko Uhlig started as an engineer from Freiberg and became a global commodities strategist. His 30 years of expertise have been shaped by roles in procurement, trading, and mine management. In Brazil, he optimised supply chains, and in South Africa, he led metal projects, always with a clear focus on efficiency and sustainability.

Since October 2023, he has been responsible as Managing Director of Zinnwald Lithium GmbH for the development of one of Europe's most significant lithium projects.

With a mining licence secured until 2047 in Zinnwald, Saxony, and a verified resource of 2.66 million tonnes of lithium carbonate equivalent, the company plans an annual production of up to 18,000 tonnes of battery-grade lithium hydroxide. 

Partners such as Metso, SRK and AMG Critical Materials are strengthening technology and financing. In addition to modern underground mining, the project relies on renewable energy and product recovery of 75 % of the waste material as a quartz sand by-product.
